The identity of the Antichrist will not be a mystery following the midway point of the seventieth week of Daniel. The Antichrist will reveal himself when he sits in the temple of God and makes the claim that he is God.
- 2Th 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
- 2Th 2:4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
Although the Antichrist’s true identity will eventually be revealed, there are probably a lot people right now who would like to identify the Antichrist before his unveiling takes place so they can monitor his activities closely.
I imagine that one point of interest that is probably on the minds of a lot of people who study Bible prophecy today is whether there is someone alive today who will serve as the Antichrist in the future. I assume each of you who are interested in identifying the Antichrist have a list of characteristics you look for when trying to identify the Antichrist.
Today I’ll share with you some of the qualities I look for when attempting to identify the Antichrist.
- Note: Some of the qualities I’ll discuss in this article have some direct biblical-backing while other qualities may not have direct biblical-backing (it’s just my opinion).
Extremely Charismatic
I imagine that the Antichrist is going to be an extremely charismatic leader. I imagine the Antichrist will be capable of exciting large crowds of people, be able to persuade many people to become very loyal followers of his, and be able to persuade various world leaders to support his ideas.
This may surprise you, but I don’t know of a person today who comes close to being as charismatic as I expect the Antichrist to be.
- This doesn’t mean that the Antichrist isn’t on Earth right now. I’m only saying that I don’t know of anyone who is as charismatic as I expect the Antichrist to be.
However, there is one historical figure who I think the Antichrist’s charisma may rival or even exceed. I think the level of charisma that the Antichrist will have could rival or even exceed the level of demonic charisma that Adolf Hitler, who I believe is the seventh king of Revelation 17:10, possessed.
Hitler possessed unnatural, demonic charisma that enabled him to induce millions of people into following him loyally. The Office of Strategic Services, a World War 2 U.S. intelligence agency, described the intoxicating effect that Hitler’s charisma had on the German people:
“Unquestionably, as a speaker, he has had a powerful influence on the common run of German people. His meetings were always crowded and by the time he got through speaking he had completely numbed the critical faculties of his listeners to the point where they were willing to believe almost anything he said... And somehow he always managed to say what the majority of the audience were already secretly thinking but could not verbalize. When the audience began to respond, it affected him in return. Before long, due to this reciprocal relationship, he and his audience became intoxicated with the emotional appeal of his oratory.[1]
Hitler’s unnatural charisma and persuasive abilities pushed people to perform tasks that they otherwise would not do. For instance, Joseph Goebbels, Hitler’s propaganda minister and member of Hitler’s inner circle, followed Hitler despite having reservations:
“I have been working with him for years, I see him almost everyday, and still there are times when he loses me completely. Who can claim to know who he really is? ...You’ll think I’m crazy, but listen to me: Hitler will bring us to a catastrophe. But his ideas, once they have been transformed, will acquire a new strength…Is he really human?” I would not want to swear on it”.[2]
Similarly, Ulrich de Maiziére, a member of Hitler’s General Staff, spoke of Hitler’s demonic impact on people:
“Secondly, (Erich von) Manstein spoke to Hitler. (Maximilian von) Weichs spoke to Hitler. (Guenther von) Kluge spoke to Hitler. And this cast a light on something which I myself experienced at the end of the war; that this man emanated an almost indescribable demonic effect on individuals, which only a few were able to escape. And which one cannot really understand if one hasn’t experienced it oneself”.[3]

Unlike Hitler, I expect the Antichrist to be fluent in at least a few widely-spoken languages, including the English language. The ability to speak different languages would enable the Antichrist to persuade people from a variety of countries to become followers of his and enable the Antichrist to use his full charisma to persuade leaders of different countries to agree to his ideas/requests/demands.
A Problem Solver
I expect the Antichrist to begin his rise to prominence as a person who addresses some of the world’s major problems through diplomacy. In fact, I think the Antichrist is the rider of the white horse in Revelation 6:2.
- Rev 6:2 And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.
Heavily Involved in Mideast Issues
One of the top problems that I expect the Antichrist to address is the longstanding conflict in the Middle East. More specifically, I expect the Antichrist to be a leader who will be heavily involved in shaping relations between Israel and its neighbors. The main reason for this expectation is that Daniel 9:27 tells us that the Antichrist will be able to confirm a "covenant with many" for “one week” (seven years).- Dan 9:27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.
I think the “covenant with many” will involve Israel & its neighbors and relate to Mideast peace in some way. We see in Daniel 9:27 that temple sacrifice will be taking place during the first portion of the seventieth week of Daniel. I think it is quite possible that the covenant with many that the Antichrist will confirm will be an all-encompassing Mideast peace agreement which includes the acceptance/toleration of temple sacrifice.
A Successful Military Leader
I think the Antichrist will likely become a successful military leader (if he isn’t already a decorated military leader before his rise) in the latter portion of his rise as Daniel 11:39 suggest that he will be able to take on the strongest opponents and win.
- Dan 11:38 But in his estate shall he honour the God of forces: and a god whom his fathers knew not shall he honour with gold, and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things.
- Dan 11:39 Thus shall he do in the most strong holds with a strange god, whom he shall acknowledge and increase with glory: and he shall cause them to rule over many, and shall divide the land for gain.
I would not rule out the possibility that the Antichrist will utilize his persuasive abilities to give leaders of various countries a false sense of security during the early portion of his rise so that he can later overwhelm his opponents in surprise attacks during the latter portion of his rise. Daniel 8:25 mentions that the Antichrist will "by peace shall destroy many".
- Dan 8:25 And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand.
Extremely Arrogant
After considering 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4 I think it is fairly obvious that the Antichrist will have a gigantic ego since he will have the audacity to claim that he is God and will demand the world to worship him. Daniel 11:36 and Daniel 8:25 also confirm that Antichrist will likely be the most arrogant person of all time.
Dan 11:36 And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done.

Ruthless Behind the Scenes
I expect that the Antichrist will not be benevolent towards others behind the scenes. Daniel 8:23 indicates that the Antichrist will be a “king of fierce countenance” which to me suggests that he will rule in a very harsh manner.
- Dan 8:23 And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up.
Not a Womanizer
I don’t think the Antichrist will be a womanizer as Daniel 11:37 suggest that the Antichrist will not regard the desire of women.
- Dan 11:37 Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard any god: for he shall magnify himself above all.
This does not mean that the Antichrist won’t be married or have a girlfriend (I can see him being married to aid his public image). However, you probably won’t see the Antichrist’s name in the tabloids for being around a bunch of different women.
Religion/Spirituality
I do not expect the Antichrist to be a follower of any of the world’s five major religions. Instead, I expect the Antichrist to adhere to occult practices and/or a New Age spiritual philosophy. Interestingly, Daniel 8:23 mentions that the Antichrist will understand “dark sentences”. Some believe “dark sentences” could imply that the Antichrist is into some sort of magic...
- Dan 8:23 And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up.
Ethnicity Unsure
I am not 100% sure what ethnicity the Antichrist will be. Some say that the Antichrist will be Assyrian as there are Bible prophecy verses in Isaiah 10, Isaiah 30, and Micah 5 that mention the “Assyrian” in a role that could arguably fit the Antichrist.
Isa 10:24 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD of hosts, O my people that dwellest in Zion, be not afraid of the Assyrian: he shall smite thee with a rod, and shall lift up his staff against thee, after the manner of Egypt.

There are others who think that Antichrist will be Syrian as Antiochus Epiphanes IV, a man who some people think Antichrist’s career will closely parallel given the similarities between how Antiochus and how the Antichrist were described by Daniel (see Daniel 8 and Daniel 11), ruled from Syria.
There are other theories about the Antichrist’s ethnicity beyond what I’ve mentioned above. However, I cannot mention them all for sake of brevity...
I am personally much more focused on looking at the group of qualities I mentioned above than focused on the ethnicity of the Antichrist. I don’t know for sure what ethnicity the Antichrist will be, so it is not something I think about much in the search for the Antichrist.
I know I haven’t listed all the characteristics that describe the Antichrist, but I hope the characteristics I mentioned in this article are helpful for anyone curious about what I look for when attempting to identify the Antichrist.

Very good write up. With regards to the covenant with the many, I think that the mid east especially, but possibly the world will be at war, and whoever the antichrist is will be the one to negotiate the peace treaty, and this treaty will allow Isreal to rebuild the temple as part of the treaty. Obviously I could be wrong, but it makes sense in that nothing short of a peace treaty from war would make the Muslims in those countries surounding Isreal allow them to rebuild their temple.
The part on Hitler was very interesting.

It sounds like you believe the seventieth week of Daniel began in the latter part of 2009. The implication of this is that the Antichrist (whoever he is) would reveal his true identity next year. I don't think we have seen the start of the seventieth week yet, but you're entitled to your opinion.
Personally I am not worrying that we are in the 70th week until I see a temple go up and sacrifices begin. Then I'll try to figure out where we are at.

One of the main reasons why I don't think he is the Antichrist is that I don't think he comes close to being as charismatic as I expect the Antichrist will be. He arguably is not as charismatic as someone like FDR. I also don't think he is a person who wants to enter the U.S. into war against other countries with major military forces or construct a major empire like the Antichrist will want to do.

The U.S. may have some role in the political change of the Middle East, but encouraging political change in Mideast countries is not the same as conquering Mideast countries.
I believe the Antichrist will manifest as an individual human being, but I do not rule out the possibility of the Antichrist being empowered by a spirit of Antichrist. Revelation 13 does indicate that the dragon will empower the beast

The number of the beast is 666 according to Revelation 13. A 501 value negates the argument that he is Antichrist.
I doubt he can be the leader you think he will be. He is not eligible to run for a third time as president since he's already served two terms. He doesn't have an army. He is not articulate so I doubt he could get many supporters for a new leadership position.if he desired one (after 8 long years I don't think he would want such a position again)

According to William Whiston's footnotes to Josephus, 23 B.C. was a Jubilee - which would also mean A.D. 28 was also one. If this is true, then the next one is set to occur in 2028 A.D.

T.L., Don't be terribly disappointed if this does not happen, for I am pretty sure it isn't going to. If the election were to be cancelled, then Obama would continue as president until another president could be elected (and I would be out of work for the day as I am an election poll worker). Bush cannot simply walk back in. His presidency is over. Obama is president until January anyhow, even after the elections. I believe God is sovereign. If Paul's writings are full of deception as you claim, then why would God allow Paul's writings to comprise a significant portion of the New Testament of the Bible? If God disliked Paul's writings, He would have stopped its inclusion in the Bible when the Bible was being put together. Paul's writings are included in the Bible, so I, as someone who believes the Bible is inerrant, see Paul's writings as part of the Word of God.
It's late where I'm at so forgive me if my answer isn't that long or if I am unable to answer all the questions you've listed. I view the passages from Hosea you have quoted as relating to the Lord's willingness to refine Israel and the remnant of Israel deciding to seek the Lord after being refined during the end times. The Lord will act to save the remnant of Israel when they are ready to seek Him-at the end of the 70th week of Daniel (there are prophetic verses where the Lord is called upon, and the Lord has promised to deliver those who call upon Him). The reference two days and three days may relate to a specific time period during the end times (not two thousand or three thousand years).

In Habakkuk 2 God tells us to watch for Antichrist.

If keeping all 613 Laws of the Torah seem to be the requirement as some Hebraic Gentiles or Messianic Jews think, then we are all in trouble, for nobody can keep those laws and we are told if we break even one, we break them all. I have not counted them, but there are hundreds of those laws that are impossible to keep by virtue of their being inexorably linked to the temple and sacrificial system. No Jew keeps the Law. NONE whatsoever. They have made substitutions, but God never allowed for those substitutions. Who are they to do that? It was decided by the apostles, not just Paul, that Gentiles do not have to be circumcized or keep kosher. They must only abstain from eating blood. Neither are Gentiles obliged to keep the feasts which were given to the Jewish nation, as again, they are supposed to be kept in Jerusalem at the temple. God knew that in having the gospel go out into the world, these feasts would be impossible to keep the way He specified, so He has lifted the requirement for the time being until the temple is restored in the millennium. To not understand how this all works, is to not understand the entire plan. And yes, I do agree that we should be keeping the Sabbath, not Sunday. That is one of the commandments and God never changed the day. Man did-- out of pressure from political and other powers. I believe when Paul was referring to Sabbaths, he was referring to the holiday sabbaths, not the weekly Sabbath. At that time it was completely understood that the weekly Sabbath was not optional due to the Ten Commandments (which Paul never told us to break), so he assumed people would know he was not talking about that Sabbath. It was the feast day sabbaths, (new moons, spring and fall feasts, other holidays like Purim, etc.) that Paul was saying we could either keep or not as we felt led. After all, one cannot keep them according to God's command when there is no temple and one lives half a world away from Jerusalem, can one?

It can NOT be speaking of the days of the Great Tribulation that will be shortened, as we are given the exact number of days that will be.

Could you please provide the verse that says that the Tribulation will last an exact number of days? I see where the second half of Daniel lasts for 1290, and where the two prophets prophesy for 1260, where the woman of Israel is put into hiding for 1260 days so that Satan cannot get to her, and where antichrist reigns for 42 months, but I don't see any verse that actually says the tribulation lasts for any specific amount of time. I see nowhere where the tribulation is defined as the 70th week, or even the second half of the 70th week. We are told when it starts, at the AOD, but we are told it is cut short. The grammar of the verse refers directly back to the days of tribulation, meaning it won't last 1260 days or 1290 days. It becomes obvious why, when you line up all the events in Matthew with Revelation.

You make some assumptions about me which aren't true.
1. You assume I don't think Satan knows the Bible. I think Satan has a stronger grasp of Bible prophecy than many people alive today. I've seen plenty of examples where false teachers warp the meaning of Bible prophecy passages to mislead people.

I already said that I knew of the verses regarding the 1260 days, 3 1/2 years, 42 months etc. and what all of them refer to, but none of them say the tribulation is that long. You are making an assumption by applying those lengths to the tribulation and ignoring the very verse which directly tells you it isn't that long. It is Daniel's 2nd half of the week that is that long, actually it is 1290 days long. It is just that most of it comes to an end on the 1260th day as then God pours out His wrath, the vials. If you look at Matt.24, you see the tribulation is cut short before the sun and moon will go dark, the stars will fall, the heavens and earth will be shaken. You find in Revelation that in the sixth seal you see these very signs, so when the sixth seal occurs, the tribulation is over. And what do we see after that? All the martyrs from the tribulation are on the sea of glass. They are waving their palm fronds in victory for having overcome, but the 144,000 from the tribes of Israel are sealed to go through the trumpet judgments, (Rev. 9:4) not the tribulation, as they are sealed after the tribulation has ended in the sixth seal. If they are the woman spoken of in Rev. 12 that is taken into the wilderness, and I believe they are, they are deliberately sealed, as they are not yet saved, (so not protected from the demons in the fifth trumpet) by the seal of God which we automatically receive when we accept Christ as our Savior. God can keep them out of antichrist's way in the wilderness, but these demons can attack anyone who does not have the seal, so even being in the wilderness will not protect these tribes of Israel. They must have God's seal and not being Christians, they don't. Those Christians who survive the tribulation are already sealed for protection from what follows after the tribulation, ergo this group are not Christians. It has to be deliberately applied to the 144,000. The church is not the ones in the wilderness. They are being killed during the tribulation. Rev. 12:14-17. That is why it is cut short. Otherwise there would be no Christians left at all, nor Gentiles who do not take the mark, and most Jews would be gone too, as everyone who doesn't take the mark is fair game. When he can't get at Israel, he goes after those who follow Christ. Rev. 12:17. The six trumpets must happen before the 1260 days are over, as God's wrath begins right after that and ends on day 1290. The 1260 days are over when the sixth trumpet ends, which is the same time as the 2 prophets are killed. Nowhere does it indicate the tribulation or time of trouble is 1260 days long. None of those verses you gave say this. You are reading it into them. I've read them too, and I don't see it in any of them.

I am not a dispensationalist, and why are you changing the subject? The subject under discussion is not the covenant, but the fact that the tribulation is not 1260 days long. You have not proved your point by any means. The 144,00 in the wilderness has nothing to do with the length of the tribulation. The 12 tribes of Israel are taken there so that Christ may woo them back to himself. They are protected from the tribulation by virtue of being taken to the wilderness. When the tribulation comes to a close, they are sealed to be protected through the trumpets. By the time the vials of God's wrath comes, they do believe in Christ. They are ethnic Israel when they are sealed, not spiritual Israel or they would already be sealed. They become spiritual Israel later. There is a distinct difference. Ethnic Israel (the nation of Israel) are the flesh and blood descendants of Abraham. They are not necessarily the spiritual seed of Abraham. On the other hand, the believing remnant of Israel, and the believing Gentiles constitute spiritual Israel. This still has nothing to do with the length of the tribulation which is for the purpose of purging the church or spiritual Israel and refining her.

Obviously we will never come to an agreement on this, as I take the book of Revelation literally and chronologically. It says the group in Rev. 7 are on the sea of glass before the throne of God. I see this as being in heaven as I take it literally. I see the seals, trumpets, and vials as being chronological so the group on the sea of glass in Rev. 7 are not the same as the group on the sea of glass in Rev. 15, nor are either of them the same as the 144,000, but you can interpret Revelation any way you want.
